“The strength of a woman is not measured by the impact that all her hardships in life have had on her; but the strength of a woman is measured by the extent of her refusal to allow those hardships to dictate her and who she becomes.” – C. Joybell C

For the first part of this day’s program, a brief orientation with the volunteers was held. Teacher Jedda also explained of what would be this day’s activity was all about.

The class officially started at 8 a.m.

After the prayer, then sing and dance activity with the kids, a puppet show was presented by two of our volunteer-teachers.  Thank you Teacher Jedda and Teacher Arman for a very entertaining and at the same time a very worthy show. The presentation was about the rights of a girl to have a proper education. We, women, were not just for household chores or housewife duties. Equality among men and women should be implemented all over the world.

For this day we celebrated the International Girls’ Day as declared by the United Nations.  In relation with this world wide event, volunteer-teachers’ main task was to hear stories from their students on how they become strong with some of their life’s turning points. They can also share their own stories of strength and courage with the kids. Yes, it was a Sunday of sharing and even counseling. Through this activity, a stronger rapport was built between volunteer-teachers and their students.

Students were also asked to write down on the paper the name of a woman they know that they look up to for being strong.  This can be their mothers, teachers or anybody that serves as a role model for them.

Thank you so much to our sponsors because aside from foods for the kids’ recess, story and academic books were also distributed for the kids. They took home the books and some of them already started to read it while the class was still on-going. It was such a nice scene seeing those kids eagerly wanting to learn new things through the books given to them.

May God will bless all the kind hearted individuals who care for these less fortunate youngsters. And those individuals would definitely be our sponsors, volunteers, and all the people who are behind Project Pearls for making all these things possible.
